Red Twig Dogwood (Cornus alba 'Sibirica' or Cornus sericea) – Hardwood Cuttings for Propagation
Easily propagate your own Red Twig Dogwood from these freshly harvested hardwood cuttings taken from dormant plants on our farm in Northern Maine. Known for its bright red stems, this fast-growing shrub adds striking color to winter landscapes. In spring, it produces clusters of small white flowers, followed by blue-white berries that attract birds and pollinators. The deep green foliage transitions to red and purple hues in fall, making it a beautiful addition to any yard or naturalized area.
Red Twig Dogwood thrives in moist soils and is often used for hedging, erosion control, and wildlife-friendly plantings. It performs well in full sun to partial shade, with more sun enhancing the intensity of its red winter color.

Propagation Instructions
Red Twig Dogwood is easy to propagate using hardwood cuttings. Follow these steps for best results:
1. (Optional): Dip the cut end in rooting hormone to speed up root formation.
2. Use a well-draining soil mix, such as perlite and peat moss.
3. Insert the cutting 4-6 inches deep, ensuring at least one node remains above the soil.
4. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
5. Place in bright, indirect light—avoid direct sun until roots establish.
6. Maintain high humidity by covering the cuttings with a humidity dome or plastic bag.
7. Ensure good airflow to prevent mold or rot.
8. Roots typically develop within 4-8 weeks. Once well-rooted, the cuttings can be hardened off and transplanted.
